Coral Gables, Fla. (www.sonyericssonopen.com) – Top-seed and World No. 1 Justine Henin defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-1, 6-3 on Saturday to capture her second career US Open title in front of a sellout crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York.

Henin, who won the French Open earlier this year, did not drop a set en route to her seventh career Grand Slam title which included victories over 2007 Australian Open Champion Serena Williams and 2007 Wimbledon Champion Venus Williams.

Henin, who lost to Serena Williams in the finals of this year's Sony Ericsson Open, has posted a 35-2 record since that loss in March while winning five tournaments including two Grand Slam titles (French, US Open).

The US Open final was never really in doubt as Henin jumped out to a 3-0 lead and broke Kuznetsova for a third time to win the opening set, 6-1. Kuznetsova, the 2004 US Open Champion, played better in the second set but was unable to hold off Henin who showed why she deserves her No. 1 ranking.
