CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.sonyericssonopen.com) – The Sony Ericsson Open, the fifth-largest tennis tournament in the world, is looking for volunteers to work at the 2008 event, March 24-April 6, at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park.
For two glorious weeks in March and April, the top players in the world including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, James Blake, Justine Henin, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams and Venus Williams, descend on Miami to compete for one of the most prestigious titles in tennis.
Volunteers are needed for a variety of positions throughout the tournament, including transportation, guest safety monitors, court ushers and ticket checkers, just to name a few. Qualifying rounds are March 24 and 25 with the main draw starting on March 26.
In addition to being a part of one of the world’s largest tennis events, volunteers receive one of the best benefit packages in sports including a complete FILA uniform, 10 complimentary tickets for the tournament, parking and meals during their shifts, and sponsor gifts.
Each individual is asked to work a minimum of 45 hours (normally nine five-hour shifts) which can be scheduled around their own work commitments.
Tournament drivers who work additional shifts will be rewarded with tickets to the semifinals and/or the women’s final.
The staging of the Sony Ericsson Open will require more than 900 volunteers and 400 ball people-- the largest volunteer presence for any tennis tournament in the world.
