CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.SonyEricssonOpen.com) - You don't have to be a tennis player to win at this year's Sony Ericsson Open. Teaming up with local radio station Power 96, the Sony Ericsson Open is giving local high school students a chance to join the likes of Grammy Award-winning singers Kelly Rowland, Jose Feliciano, Jon Secada and Teen Choice Award-wining singer JoJo in performing the National Anthem on Stadium Court at one of the biggest sports' events of the year.
Power 96 will host a two-week contest among South Florida High School students beginning March 10 with the winner singing the National Anthem on Stadium Court at the 2008 Sony Ericsson Open.
To enter the contest, local high school students will upload their MP3 audio files of their rendition of the National Anthem onto the Power 96 website. At the conclusion of the first week, five finalists will be selected by the Power 96 staff. Each finalist will have a profile created and posted on the Power 96 website. Beginning March 17, week two of the contest, one finalist per day will come to the studio to persuade listeners to vote for them. Listeners can vote for their favorite vocalist at www.power96.com . The top vote getter will sing the National Anthem on April 3, prior to evening session matches on Stadium Court.
Each of the five finalists will receive the new Sony Ericsson portable Bluetooth ™ speaker MBS-100. The small, yet powerful wireless speaker looks spectacular and delivers crystal clear sound, so no matter where they go, each singer can enjoy the sound of their National Anthem moment.
