Scoring System
Keeping track of scores, stats, and serve speeds is no small task. Factor in that the Sony Ericsson Open uses 12 courts for matches during the tournament simultaneously, and now the task is even larger. The IDS Scoring System networks to all 12 courts using IBM ThinkPads with centralized IBM NetFinity mirrored servers. The recipients of all of this live data include television graphics, display boards, inquiry systems, closed circuit TV, and the web.
Live Match Stats
During the 12 days of the Sony Ericsson Open, IDS will be transferring the on-site scores and statistics to the Sony Ericsson Open Web Site. This is accomplished by dedicating a PC, which is connected to the IDS Scoring Network, running a Tennis Gateway program and receiving data from all 12 courts. This gateway application posts the live data (in HTML format) across a high speed internet connection to Microsoft Windows 2000 Web Servers housed in Jacksonville, Florida. The live data pages are available for immediate viewing on the client's web browser. This allows the fan to view the latest scores and stats as they occur. Along the same lines, the draw sheets and tournament results are also dynamically created, which gives the fan the most up-to-date draw sheet information available, just as if you were actually on-site at the Sony Ericsson Open.

Serve Speed Systems
The IDS Stadium System™ is one of the leading attractions at the Sony Ericsson Open, increasing spectator enjoyment, gathering interest from TV and the press, while giving participants instant feedback on their performance. Check out the "Serve Speeds" section of this site (under "History") to view both past and present speed serve leaders of the Sony Ericsson Open.
Display Boards
Throughout the site, information on live scores, stats, results, advertising, serve speeds, and events are made available by IDS Matrix and LED Display Boards. Located on-court, scoring towers, press areas, and throughout the site, spectators are kept well informed on the entire Sony Ericsson Open.
Inquiry Systems
Combining the latest in multimedia technology, IDS has created the ultimate event information system, combining statistical data accurate to the second and historical information about all of the players.
TV Technology
By interfacing with the IDS Scoring System, real-time statistics from all 12 courts are available to both national and international broadcasts. IDS software, in an instant, calculates requested stats and feeds this information to a character generator to provide up-to-the-second stats. No worrying about mistyping a number by hand, as the IDS interface provides the broadcasters and on-site closed circuit broadcasts the real-time statistical graphics that make the Sony Ericsson Open a success. |
